At least one person was killed and two others were injured after a gunman started firing on employees of a supermarket in the town of West Hempstead, in the New York region of Long Island.
The alleged assailant, identified by authorities as Gabriel Dewitt Wilson, 30, he was one of the employees of the supermarket, that on arriving at the building he went up directly to two offices of the manager of the establishment, where he pulled out a small handgun and began firing, police explained at a brief press conference.
The attack, carried out at 11.19 local time (15.19 GMT), Resulted in the death of a 49-year-old man, while a woman and a man were injured and are being treated at the hospital.
After the shootings, Wilson fled the area and was found throughout the morning and arrested at a Nassau County police residence, where West Hempstead is located.
According to police, the motive for the attack is unknown at this time, but they stressed that Wilson had been treated for mental health issues in the past, and that he had a history of minor crimes.
“In recent months, we have seen on the screens of our televisions how armed people are devastating our communities.
