A DUI suspect driving away from a traffic stop crashed into another car at a nearby intersection and killed the driver in a head-on crash Tuesday night in Gardena.
The crash was reported around 10:30 p.m., near the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Western Avenue. It came shortly after police stopped a reckless driver.
The driver left the high-speed traffic stop as officers approached and then collided with a sedan, according to police. The driver of the sedan, identified as a man in his 60s, died at the scene.
Details about the victim’s identity were not immediately available.
A 19-year-old man – the driver of the other car – was arrested on suspicion of DUI, grand theft, evasion and vehicular homicide. He was admitted to the hospital, but no details were immediately obtained about his condition.
