The City Council of Sant Diumenge This is preparing to receive in the coming days the flotilla of 25 trucks that will be integrated to give continuity to the waste collection program that has begun the institution with the aim of definitively resolving the garbage problem in this demarcation, and that began with the Operation Cleaning Route.
The operation, which is being carried out jointly with Public Works and the Directorate of Special Programs of the Presidency (Propeep), from last July 20, will be extended until September 30 when the new units are integrated and this way to avoid the re-presentation of the pile of garbage that was lived in the past days in the municipality.
This was announced on Monday afternoon by Mayor Manuel Jiménez, in a press conference with the Minister of Special Projects, José Leonel Cabrera (Neney), where the progress of the operation was announced.
Jimenez noted that the garbage collection work was affected by the rains generated by the recent storms Fred and Grace that affected the country, which prevented compliance with the 45-day deadline set to meet the program.
However, he indicated that with the integration of the new trucks, purchased at a cost of 122 million pesos, will begin a mixed model of garbage collection, in which the City Council and an external company will participate that will be contracted through tender.
He said the trucks will have a GPS system and cameras installed, which will allow them to track digitally the route and frequency they develop.
For a greater effectiveness of the program, it will also continue socializing with the different sectors of the municipality and with the communities, with the aim of giving effective fulfillment to the plan of garbage collection.
Since the start of the Operation Cleaning Route, a total of 120,000 tons of rubbish have been collected, of which about 50,000 were removed from the open-air transfer station or landfill located in the banks of the Ozama River.
