Folds are widely predicted to be the future of smartphones, engaging in the process of transforming glass layers into designs with greater uniqueness and character. We have seen some redesigns of the final foldable hardware, but everyone agrees that some work still needs to be done at this end. OPPO has some ideas on how the folds might work, and it collaborates with Japanese design studio Nento to express the three-hinge foldable design concept.
Temporarily called “slide-phone”, which is primarily a Design feedback from OPPO, I.e. it is only on paper without a working prototype so far. This is a vision of the future, and it is interesting to see the direction in which OEMs think it will be possible for consumer technology.
Today, we show you two new design ideas co-produced by leading Japanese design studio, Nento.

The slide-phone has three hinges that allow it to be tripled. But unlike the concepts of Xiaomi and DCL, this design concept should work more in the paths of a Galaxy Z Flip, but not the Galaxy Z folding. Sliding up once reveals a 40mm screen with simple functions that don’t require a full screen, such as call history, notifications and music player interfaces.
One second reveals an 80mm screen, which OPPO hopes will be ideal for taking selfies. The cameras under consideration for this design are only on the back, so a hinge mechanism here will work for the front camera application events.
This design concept has no release dates, deadlines or any confirmation – there is not even a working prototype because it is obviously a design concept. The OPPO X 2021 rolling concept is nothing new to OPPO to revive some of these, as it did with the smartphone. So if there is enough interest, it might happen.
