The great brightness of the Mexican Sun, Luis Miguel, has in turn shown the great darkness that surrounds it. That is why the writers Javier León Herrera and Juan Manuel Navarro wrote “King’s Gold,” an updated biography in which through the “mistakes” and “hits” of the singer they put in context the person behind the myth.
“We all have mistakes and successes in life and he knows about his mistakes and now we have discovered them. (The book) is a balance of his successes and failures and how they made it move forward, resurface and remain a global success, “Juan Manuel Navarro, the Mexican author of the book, told Efe on Tuesday.
The “germ” of the book -as the Spanish journalist (Javier León Herrera) says at this first impulse they had to write on the subject- was born 25 years ago with the research he did for the first book “Lluís meu King “, on which the writers of” Luis Miguel, the series “of Netflix were based, by authorization of the own singer.
This first book told the shocking story of Luis Miguel (San Juan, Puerto Rico, 1970), his family full of conflicts, the imposing personality of his father and his abuse of him, his first steps in music, the his rise to fame and one of his greatest pains: the disappearance of his mother.
“One of the things we have taken care of has been to reveal what the soul behind this star and this myth is like. When you see this you understand many things (…) There is a being full of light and a good person behind and is the one we all want to see, ”Javier points out.
“King’s Gold” puts an end to his mother’s theme and tells the second part of his story after his father’s death, Luisito Rei. A stage full of musical successes, romances with artists like Mariah Carey and great betrayals.
For the Spanish journalist, it is incredible the “resilience” that the singer has developed to “move on”, after the hard times he has had to go through.
Luis Miguel “has been betrayed one betrayal after another and some very painful, this led to the crisis of 2015, but some friends made a rescue plan and resurfaced with the overwhelming success of the series and the tours, “says Javier.
UNPUBLISHED INTERVIEWS, SECRETS AND ANONYMOUSNESS
The book was built thanks to the previous research that both journalists had done, as well as the series of interviews that both conducted with personalities very close to the performer of “Suau”, who mostly decided to stay in anonymity.
“Some thought that if they gave us an interview he would get angry. Others trusted because if the first book was approved by him, it already gave him credibility to our work, now by having confidence in the work we have fact most accepted, ”says Juan, who has had the opportunity to interview the Sun on four occasions.
“There have been many who have told us, ‘I will explain this to them because we are looking for the good of Luis Miguel, but we do not want our name to appear in any way,'” adds Javier.
“King’s Gold” is also a celebration of the “golden wedding” of the singer with life, who turned 50 last April 2020, and who, due to the pandemic, the book had to wait until 2021 to be released, the sale will begin on April 20 under the Aguilar label of the publishing house Penguin Random House.
The prologue was written by Emilio Estefan and it also has a chapter dedicated to the singer’s fanatics, as the writers recognize his important role in the artist’s career.
In Javier and Juan Manuel’s plans is to continue writing about what they consider arguably the “greatest performer Mexico has ever had.”
“What we would like is for him, as he himself says, to reach the age of 70 with his glass of whiskey as Frank Sinatra sings. fantastic, ”concludes Javier.
