Overwatch jumps PS5 with new next-generation upgrades

Overwatch Tracer PS5

Overwatch has received an update to help it take advantage of current generation consoles, but PlayStation 5 is not part of that lineup. Outlined in a long list of patch notes on Battle.net, community manager Josh Nash improves on documents designed for Xbox Series X systems | S. They will be treated with three new modes in total. One generates a 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, the second improves image quality at the same frame rate, and the final option supports 120 frames per second on compatible TV sets. As of now, none of these updates will be made available to PS5 gamers.

Why do you ask? We bring you back to the built-in flaw in the way Sony handles the PS5 and PS4 versions of its games. Essentially, the Blizzard developer should produce a native version of PS5 so that these enhancements can be taken advantage of, even though you already have the hardware that can handle it. These updates are different from those received on Days Gone and Ghost of Tsushima since the console’s release.

As such, Overwatch is now on the same ship as Rocket League and Call of Duty: Warzone: both titles look and work much better on the Xbox Series X | S. At the time, Stephanie Thoensen, head of communications at Psyonix, said: “Enabling 120Hz on Xbox Series S | X is a minor patch, but enabling it on PS5 requires a full native port due to compatibility with previous version being implemented on the console and unfortunately not Not possible because of our approach elsewhere “.
