HARRISBURG, Pa. – New coronavirus cases and hospitalizations continue to jump in Pennsylvania.
Nearly 12,000 new cases were recorded in the last seven days. This has increased by more than 2,000 over the previous week.
Daily hospitalizations in the last two weeks went from a daily average of 834 to 1,181.
Virus deaths continue to rise. A further 22 deaths were reported on Friday. Last Friday, 16 new deaths were recorded. The death toll in the state is 28,040.
The percentage of positivity throughout the state during the week of August 6 to August 12 stood at 6.0%.
Still, new cases, hospitalizations, and deaths remain a fraction of what they were during the winter hike.
5,051,076 people have been negative so far.
In licensed nursing and personal care homes, there have so far been 72,954 cases of COVID-19 residents and 15,796 cases among employees, for a total of 88,750 to 1,603 facilities in the 67 counties.
Of the total number of deaths reported to PA-NEDSS, 13,538 occurred in residents from nursing or personal care settings. A breakdown of the county can be found on the Department of Health website.
Approximately 29,888 of the total cases have been among health care workers.
Vaccine highlights
According to the CDC, as of Thursday, Pennsylvania ranks fifth among the 50 states for total doses administered. As of Thursday, 64.7% of Pennsylvanians over the age of 18 are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC.
5,861,445 people are fully vaccinated, with 20,935 vaccines administered on Thursday and a seven-day moving average of more than 15,500 people a day receiving vaccines.
The department said it continues to urge Pennsylvaniaers to follow CDC guidelines for wearing a mask when required by law, regulations and regulations, including health services, local businesses and career guidance.
People who have not yet been vaccinated or are partially vaccinated are still encouraged to wear a mask when in public. CDC also recommends that all people wear a mask indoors in public if they are in a substantial or elevated transmission area.
