A pay cut will give veteran receiver Devin Funchess a chance to continue with the Green Bay Packers in 2021.
According to Ian Rapoport, of the NFL Network, Funchess agreed to make a salary of approximately $ 750,000 in his one-year contract this season.
Funchess opted for the 2020 season because of concerns about the coronavirus. With a reduced limit reached in 2021, Funchess will provide the Packers with a reduction in the limit, making it a low-risk, low-cost option when the receiver enters low season.
His contract was expected to account for $ 2,265,625 against the pre-pay limit. Without a pay cut, Funchess could have been a limit victim as the packers tried to lower the salary cap at the start of the new league year.
Funchess, 26, has not played in any regular season games in the NFL since the first week of the 2019 season. He missed the last 15 games of 2019 with a shoulder injury and then retired from last season.
The Packers will have a chance to see if Funchess is fit and has something left to offer during the low season training program and training camp before deciding their future in Green Bay.
Both Aaron Rodgers and Matt LaFleur expressed their excitement for the opportunity to work with Funchess last spring.
“Adding Devin, who is a veteran boy who has played in the league for several years. And he wants to come in, “Rodgers said last May.
