Pakistan’s intelligence chief, Lieutenant Faiz Hameed, arrives in Kabul when the Taliban announce the government

NEW DELHI: Amid heavy fighting in the Panjshir Valley, Pakistani intelligence chief General Faiz Hameed has arrived in Kabul on Saturday to lead a delegation of Pakistani officials.
Hameed’s arrival is also ahead of the announcement of a new government formation by the Taliban next week.
ANI quoted Pakistani journalist Hamza Azhar Salam as saying that Hameed is visiting Afghanistan at the invitation of the Taliban to discuss the future of the two countries.

The Taliban leadership was based in Pakistan and was often said to be in direct contact with the powerful inter-service intelligence agency.
Although Pakistan routinely denied military aid to the Taliban, the accusation was often made by the Afghan government and Washington.
Pakistan and its notorious intelligence agency have been accused of supporting the Taliban in the capture of Afghanistan.

Speaking to Washington reporters, Foreign Secretary Harsh V Shringla said on Friday that Pakistan had “supported and fed” the Taliban who replaced the elected government.
Speaking to a group of journalists in Washington, Shringla said: “Pakistan is a neighbor of Afghanistan, they have supported and fed the Taliban. There are several elements that support Pakistan, so its role has been to see in this context. ”

Experts believe that Pakistan has been a key player in removing the elected Afghan government from the government and establishing the Taliban as a decisive power in Afghanistan.
Recently, a UN monitoring report said that a significant part of Al Qaeda’s leadership resides in the border region of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
