During the launch of its new expansion Ultimatum, Way of exile the servers had some issues over the weekend, leaving players a waiting time to enter, which sometimes extended into hours. Unless, of course, it was a paid streamer to broadcast the game, in which case you went in directly.

Fans of the wait quickly learned of this and were rightly upset, to the point that lead developer Chris Wilson he had to issue a lengthy statement to the subreddit of the game, which said:

So while all this was going on, we also managed to take a pretty big false step and infuriate the whole community, allowing the streamers to avoid this very slow queue we mentioned. The bottom line is that we’ve recently been doing proper paid influencer marketing, and that involves organizing big streamers to show Path of Exile to your audience, for money (they have #ad in their titles). We had agreed to pay for two hours of real-time playback and found ourselves with a login queue that would take two hours to clear. It was almost as close as you could literally set fire to a large pile of money. So we made the hasty decision to allow those transmission bands to pass the queue. Most streamers didn’t ask for it and shouldn’t be held responsible for what happened. We also allowed some other streamers who didn’t participate in the campaign to also skip the queue so they wouldn’t be at the back foot.

The decision to allow any transmitter to pass through the queue was clearly a mistake. Instead of offering the spectators something to see while they waited, he offended all our players who were eager to enter the match and could not, while instead of having to watch the others enjoyed this freedom. . It is quite understandable that many players were unhappy with this. We tell people that the beginnings of the Path of Exile league are a fair playing field for everyone, and we really need to make sure that this is the reality. We will not allow streamers to avoid the queue in the future. Instead, we’ll make sure the queue works much better so it’s a quick process for everyone and always a fair playing field. We will also plan future marketing campaigns taking into account contingencies to better manage this type of situation in the future.

It is quite understandable that many players are unhappy with how several fronts have gone today. This post has no intention of trying to convince you to be happy with these results. We just want to give you an idea of what happened, why it happened, and what we do about it in the future. We are also very unhappy.

It’s good that they don’t do it again, but it’s a shame it was even raised as an idea, let alone in the green light and executed.
