PC gamers will get Hitman 2 levels for free in Hitman 3 after all

Last week, IO Interactive said players would have to own Hitman 2 in the Epic Games Store if they wanted to import their levels into Hitman 3. That was rubbish; for game owners on Steam, it meant you couldn’t have those levels either, or would have to buy it back. Fortunately, IO is looking for a solution and guarantees that players will not have to buy the game again after all.

“We continue to work with our partners to allow PC players who own Hitman 1 or Hitman 2 to import locations from these games to at no additional costthey said on Sunday.

“We guarantee that the players will do it NO i need to buy these games again “.

(IO’s emphasis in bold and capital letters.)

The problem is that both Hitman 1 and 2 were originally released on Steam, while Hitman 3 is released as Epic exclusive. As early as August, IO announced that “locations 1 to 2 can be imported at no additional cost to existing owners.” But they revealed on Friday that this didn’t matter to Steam owners, and that they would have to buy the Hitman 2 Access Pass at Epic to get those locations.

Still, IO is working with Epic to sort things out and claim that the change will be rolled out “in the coming weeks,” which is awkward considering that Hitman 3 will be released in just two days, on Wednesday, January 20th.

“We never want players to feel compelled to repurchase the contents of the Epic Game store they bought in another PC store so they can access the features of a new game.” Epic said Sunday.

The Hitman 1 GOTY Access Pass remains free for PC gamers to pre-order Hitman 3 or purchase it within 10 days of its release. So at the very least, you’ll have some levels of Hitman 1 until the Hitman 2 drama is dealt with.
