PCR of international travelers will be required to enter Colombia – Health


Given the emergence of new strains of covid-19, including Brazilian, British, South African, among others, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection has decided to request a PCR test with a negative result of obligatory to Colombians and foreigners residing in Colombia, who enter the national territory by air.

With the emergence of three strains of public health interest and others under observation, a challenge is generated about the need to strengthen genomic surveillance. Therefore, the Ministry is updating its recommendations based on the best available scientific evidence, ”said Julian Fernández Nen, director of Epidemiology and Demography of this portfolio.

With this, the health authorities in Colombia will keep track through testing, symptom monitoring, tracking travelers around the world and research for genomic surveillance cases.

This and other measures were defined through Resolution 411 (of 29 March) in which biosecurity protocols for domestic and international flights were unified. “Because of the pandemic we had had several administrative acts of domestic flights being updated and also two on international flights. We are now merging into one, with specific recommendations coming into force on April 7, 2021“, Added Fernández Nen.

In front of the test, this has to do before 96 hours of the entrance to country. For those who do not present it, a strict isolation protocol has been provided for 14 days with rigorous monitoring by the health and judicial authorities.
