The director of the Guaynabo Sports Office, Gil Urbina Pérez, And the Assistant Secretary of Administration of the Department of Recreation and Sports (DRD), the graduate Rolando Coves, They sound like the strongest candidates to be nominated by Governor-elect Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia to lead the DRD, as it is to be announced between tomorrow, Monday, and this Wednesday.
Sources familiar with the interview process have told El Nou Dia that the group of potential candidates has been reduced to these two officials.
In the case of Urbina Pérez, who represented Puerto Rico in the sport of weightlifting and was assistant secretary of the DRD, she has the favor of a large number of federal presidents.
Meanwhile, Coves holds one of the highest positions within the DRD and has represented the current secretary, Adriana Sánchez Parés, in several public hearings.
He was also appointed by Pierluisi in September as director of the “Get Out the Vote” initiative, to encourage voting in the last election.
Similarly, Pierluisi met last Friday with the former athlete and now athletic director of the Mayagüez University Campus of the University of Puerto Rico, Ray Quiñones, to talk about this place, a source told this diary.

Also mentioned was the possibility of Pierluisi leaving Sánchez Parés in his place, as he has done with other officials such as the assistant general of the National Guard, José Juan Reyes; the Secretary of the Treasury, Francisco Parés; and the Secretary of Labor and Human Resources, Carlos J. Rivera Santiago.
The governor-elect has also made important appointments such as Manuel Cidre in the Department of Economic Development and Trade, former Larry Seilhamer in the Secretary of State and Dr. Carlos Mellado as Secretary of Health.
Pierluisi will be sworn in as the new governor on January 2.
