Peloton Interactive’s redesigned and scaled-down tape will be re-released next week in the United States, the company said Tuesday.
The pull-out machine, priced at $ 2,495, will go on sale Monday in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, the company said in a press release that uses the word “security” nine times. The reintroduction of the Tread occurs after the withdrawal of May, as well as the most expensive Tread + machines of Peloton. Guests will also have to pay $ 39 a month for Peloton’s live training schedule and classes.
“We’ve worked hard to make sure the new Tread really wins its place in members’ homes, ”said John Foley, general manager and co-founder of Peloton. “We will always continue to innovate our security hardware, software and features to meet our commitment to member security and enhance the full member experience.”
The new tread includes a four-digit code to unlock the product belt before use. It also has a physical security key that can be stretched to stop quickly if needed, Peloton said. In addition, the speed and tilt knobs are located on the side rails of the belt for easy access, as they align with the natural arm of the runner.
Peloton puts the product back on the market after the company recalled in May both the Tread + machines and the more expensive Tread + first stepping back. The memories came after more than 70 incidents, including the death of a child and 29 other cases where children suffered broken bones, lacerations and second- and third-degree abrasions.
Withdrawals came a month after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warned households with children and pets to stop using both products and, two months later, Peloton warned customers to keep children and animals away from exercise equipment. The CPSC cited several reports that children were “trapped, nailed and stretched under” the rear roller of the product and said Peloton had received 72 reports from adult users, children, pets and various objects being thrown around. back of his treadmills.
Peloton later apologized for resisting the CPSC’s request to recall the machines, which weigh up to 450 pounds, and stopped sales of the Tread + to work on hardware modifications.
Meanwhile, the Tread was remembered because its touch screen could come off and fall off, posing a risk of injury to users. Those who purchased the previous version of the tread have received a free repair or refund.
Tread + owners have until November 2022 to request a full refund. Peloton has not yet given a timeline for when it will return to market its Tread +.
Peloton is best known for his stationary bikes, but he introduced the treadmill about three years ago and now calls it Tread +. Approximately 125,000 of the Tread + machines were sold online and in Peloton showrooms from September 2018 to early 2021 for about $ 4,295 each.
