“After much prayer and reflection, Bonnie and I have decided that we will not enter the race for the U.S. Senate in Georgia in 2022,” Perdue said. “This is a personal decision, not a political one. I’m sure whoever wins the Republican primary next year will defeat the Democratic candidate in the general election for that seat and I’ll do everything I can to make that happen. ”
“As we saw in my career in November, Georgia is not a blue state. The more Georgians vote, the better Republicans are. These two current liberal senators in the United States do not represent the values of a majority of Georgians.
Perdue’s announcement came just a week after he confirmed he was pondering a 2022 campaign against Warnock after losing the Jan. 5 election to the senator. Jon Ossoff

With the double victories of Warnock and Ossoff last month, Democrats gained control of Georgia’s two Senate seats for the first time in nearly two decades and effectively captured the majority in the upper house.
But Perdue was not the only former Republican lawmaker to weigh his return in 2022. Loeffler told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in an interview published Monday that a rematch with Warnock “is certainly on the table.”

Republicans, however, are eager to avoid a contested primary in 2022 after a tough fight between Loeffler and Collins last year that allowed Warnock to go relatively unscathed in the general election. In his interview with the Journal-Constitution, Loeffler warned that a brutal Republican Party primary would only help Democrats.
“I am grateful for Doug’s service in our country. I appreciate your work on the second lap. I beat Doug by 6 points in the general election, “Loeffler told the newspaper. “But the result is what happens when Republicans team up with Democrats to attack other Republicans.”
“It doesn’t end well for Republicans, and it hurt us from top to bottom,” he added. “My focus is on the lessons learned. We have to make sure that together we move forward and strengthen our party, without breaking it ”.
