Pfizer Inc. i The BioNTech SE vaccine against Covid-19 is safe for the elderly, according to a European-wide review, which has no link between the shooting and death of vaccinated elderly people.
The review found no new side effects as the vaccine was deployed. The safety panel of the European Medicines Agency analyzed deaths in light of other medical conditions that people had, as well as the mortality rate of the corresponding age groups of the general population, according to the EMA in a statement.
“The data show no link to vaccination with Comirnaty,” the group wrote, using the brand name of the Pfizer-BioNTech shot, “and the cases do not pose any safety issues.”
Reports from deaths in Norway earlier this month caused concern around the world, with people watching to see if signs of possible side effects from vaccines were being introduced at an unprecedented rate. Norwegian authorities have also moved to allay fears, saying there is no evidence of a causal link and that Covid-19 is more dangerous to most patients than vaccination.
The EMA panel will publish monthly reports on the safety of Covid-19 vaccines.
