Philadelphia 76ers basketball operations president Daryl Morey has been fined $ 50,000 for violating the NBA’s anti-manipulation policy, the league’s office announced Monday.
The fine is in response to a Dec. 20 tweet about Houston Rockets superstar James Harden. The tweet, which was deleted a few minutes later, celebrated the one-year anniversary that Harden broke the Rockets franchise attendance record.
Morey told the league it was an unintentional release of an automated app, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Apparently, Rockets CEO Tad Brown responded to Morey’s tweet that night, sending an emoji with his eyebrows raised and a hand rubbing his chin.
Morey was hired by the 76ers this off season less than two weeks after resigning as general manager of the Rockets, a position he held for 13 seasons.
Harden called for a change to the Rockets later in the offseason. According to sources, Harden originally informed the team that he wanted to be switched to Brooklyn networks, but has since expanded his list of favorite destinations to include the 76ers and other potential candidates.
