Philly Cop drives drunk, enters house, hurts woman, says PD – NBC10 Philadelphia

An off-duty Philadelphia police officer driving drunk flew into the air, plowed into a house, nailed a woman under her car and left her seriously injured, police said.

Officer Gregory Campbell, 27, was driving in northeast Philadelphia around 8:20 p.m. Saturday and lost control and crashed his car into a 2800 block of Comply Road, he said. say Philadelphia Police Department Commissioner Danielle Outlaw.

Campbell, assigned to the department’s 14th district, beat the 53-year-old woman as well as a 45-year-old man and his two dogs, Outlaw said. The woman was trapped under the car and became unconscious before being taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where she was in critical condition. The man suffered injuries to his right arm, hand, hip and leg, as well as a road rash in his back, the commissioner said.

“The fact that the offender, in this case, is a Philadelphia police officer is appalling,” Outlaw said in a statement. “Police officers must have a higher standard, even out of service, and I assure victims and the public that a full and thorough investigation will be conducted.”

Campbell is charged with aggravated assault, DUI and related felonies.

John McNesby, president of the No. 5 Philadelphia Fraternal Order union, echoed Outlaw in sending prayers to the victims’ families. He described it as an “unfortunate incident” and said the union “will continue to oversee the investigation”.
