Governor Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia Urrutia has responded today, Sunday, to the message of the President of the Senate, José Luis Dalmau Santiago, recalling that people chose the state as status.
“The vote for statehood has the consequence of unequivocally establishing that the will of the people of Puerto Rico is that we achieve statehood,” the first president said in written statements.
He also added that he is not surprised that Dalmau Santiago is content with a representation in the United States Congress without a vote.
“We need these six additional people to advocate for the equality of every American citizen in Puerto Rico. And there is no requirement that a territory must be incorporated territory before it can be a state, and we who want equality, we want it. complete, not in half, “said Pierluisi Urrutia.
Similarly, he refuted that “Enough of so much hypocrisy or bullshit” because in his view it is not fair to demand equal treatment in federal programs while denying the vote to Puerto Ricans.
“On top of evils, the senator uses the fiscal plans and impositions of the Fiscal Supervision Board as an excuse, when we all know that as a state, the first thing that goes away is the Board,” Pierluisi Urrutia said.
The governor also clarified that he agrees with Dalmau Santiago that the issue of status is a serious matter, but that the decision of the people goes above the republican system of government.
“Therefore, any legislative action that is aimed at ignoring the will of our people will be rejected in full by this server and must be rejected by all,” said Pierluisi Urrutia.
