Piers Morgan leaves “Good Morning Britain” after Meghan and Prince Harry comment

British television personality Piers Morgan leaves “Good Morning Britain” after comments he made about Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, ITV announced on Tuesday. Morgan has been a constant critic of the couple, receiving reactions from viewers and investigating a media watchdog.

“After discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided that now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain,” the station said in a statement. “ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing else to add.”

Prince Harry and Meghan scandalized millions on Sunday in an interview with Oprah, revealing that relentless pressure from British tabloids and the royal family led Meghan to contemplate suicide. She also said there were discussions about “how dark” would be her baby’s skin color. The royal family called the complaints “concern“but said the problems would be dealt with by the family in private.

Morgan, however, appeared on “Good Morning Britain” on Monday and said they lied about Meghan’s comments. “I’m sorry, I don’t think he says a word,” he said. “I wouldn’t believe it if you read me a weather report.”

Both spectators and Morgan’s own co-hosts condemned his actions. While Morgan clarified his comments the next morning, saying he considers suicide and mental health to be important issues for professionals to deal with, he later left the studio after co-star Alex Beresford described Meghan’s treatment of “evil.”

“I understand you don’t like Meghan Markle. You’ve made it so clear several times on this show,” Beresford said. “I understand you have a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or you had one and she interrupted you. She has the right to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she interrupted you? I think she did, though, all and that, keep sweeping it ”

Morgan left the set of the program.

Later on Tuesday, Morgan tweeted about his departure from the show. “Thinking of my late, great manager John Ferriter tonight,” he said he wrote. “I would have told you to do exactly the same. @GMB #TrustYourGut”

Earlier, the UK Communications Office said it would be so investigating Morgan’s comments according to his “rules of damages” after he received more than 40,000 complaints.
