The Northern California weekend, a force-using expert who testified in defense at the murder trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin, was vandalized over the weekend, with a pig’s head and blood , said police.
Police said in a statement that they believed the Santa Rosa home was targeted because it was once the home of Barry Brodd, a retired police officer who testified last week in Chauvin’s murder trial over the death of George Floyd.
“It appears that the suspects in this vandalism were directed by Mr Brodd for his testimony,” the department said. “Mr. Brodd has not lived in the residence for several years and is no longer a resident of California. “
“Since Mr. Brodd no longer lives in the city of Santa Rosa, it appears that the victim was the object of a false mind,” the statement said.
Police said they were called to the house shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday and found a pig’s head cut on the porch and smeared with blood on the front of the house.
Police also believe another vandalism attack about 45 minutes later was carried out by the same people.
In that incident, a large-handed statue was found in front of Santa Rosa Plaza smeared with animal blood, with a sign that read “Oink, oink” on the site.
Brodd, a former Santa Rosa police officer, testified Tuesday in Chauvin’s murder trial that he believed George Floyd’s restraint of the ex-police was in line with proper police practices.
In a statement issued after Brodd’s testimony, Rainer Navarro, Santa Rosa’s police chief, distanced himself from the ex-officer in his department.
“We are aware of former Santa Rosa police officer Barry Brodd, who testified in the Derek Chauvin trial,” Navarro’s statement said.
“Mr. Brodd has not worked in the department since 2004, ”the chief wrote. “His comments do not reflect the values and beliefs of the Santa Rosa police department.
