pitchers Rich Hill and Collin McHugh agree with Tampa Bay Rays

Pitchers Rich Hill and Collin McHugh agreed on one-year contracts with the Tampa Bay Rays, according to several reports.

Hill, a 40-year-old left-hander who has pitched for nine other teams in just over 16 seasons in the Major Leagues, secured a $ 2.5 million contract. He has a 67-44 mark with a 3.79 lifetime effectiveness in his runs with the Dodgers, Cubs, Orioles, Red Sox, Indians, Angels, Yankees, Athletics and Twins.

The opener had a 30-16 record with 3.16 effectiveness between 2016 and 2019 with the Dodgers and had a 2-2 record with 3.03 effectiveness with the Twins during the 2020 season shortened by the pandemic.

McHugh, 33, has been both opener and reliever for parts of eight seasons with the Mets, Rockies and Astres, with a 58-43 record and 3.95 ERA. The right signed with Boston in 2020, but chose to leave the short season while recovering from an injury.

Hill and McHugh are the latest additions to the pitching corps that Tampa Bay is renewing after winning the American League banner last season.

The team declined to exercise the option over right-hander Charlie Morton and changed Cy Young winner to LA in 2018 Blake Snell, which created spaces in the rotation that were filled with Michael’s signatures Wacha and Chris Archer in the offseason.

Hill and McHugh potentially add depth to both the rotation and the bullpen.
