Pixel illustrator and artist Pat Ackerman has spent the last year reinventing the entire Pokédex of Pokémon Sword i Shield as old school sprites.

Starting when the eighth-generation beginners were revealed, Ackerman slowly but surely pixelated all the pocket monsters that were in the latest games in the series. And, starting this week, it has an incredibly impressive portfolio of perfectly pixelated Pokémon to show off.

Perhaps even more impressive is Ackerman’s dedication to making his art seem the closest thing to the first generation of Pokémon games as possible—Yellow Pokémon specifically.

“When creating them, I use the 56 x 56 canvas, which was the original size of the sprites Red / blue / green / yellow Pokémon“Ackerman said Kotaku. “I also stick with the palette of Yellow. I focus a lot on the position of the Pokémon, as this is what previously defined who they were before the 3D models. I try to make them dynamic and show something unique about the Pokémon. “

Ackerman’s other pixel projects go earlier Pokémon generations and Monster Hunter, magnificently capturing Game Boy hardware restrictions. His work can also be found in role-playing games for PC Crown Monster.

We’ve included some of Ackerman’s favorites Pokémon Sword i Shield sprites at the top of this story, but be sure to check out more of their work Twitter i Instagram.
