PLD re-elects its CC and expands it to 955 members

The opposition Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) announced yesterday the transformations ordered by this organization issued in the virtual general plenary sessions where it was approved to re-elect its current members of the central committee and agreed to create about 300 new seats in this body, for which it will be composed of not less than 955 members who remain in office for four years.

“The president, vice presidents and secretary general may not hold office in the Dominican state or be candidates for elective office. In the event that they decide to aspire to an elective office, they must resign from the party functions they hold prior to communicating the their aspirations “, points out one of the decisions adopted by the plenary sessions held on the 19th, 20th and 21st of this month, as part of the decisions of the IX José Joaquín Bidó Medina Ordinary Congress.

In addition, a transitional paragraph was approved, indicating that in the period 2021-2025 the Central Committee will be composed of its current 460 members, legislators, mayors and municipal directors elected in the elections of March and July this year. Also, the “proposed by the Political Committee” and another 300 members to be elected at the local, national and foreign level.

Advisory Committee

The PLD also created an Advisory Committee, which will be composed of members of the Political Committee who do not continue as part of this body.

It was approved to reduce from ten to five years of party militancy as one of the requirements to be a member of the Central Committee, which they said will give young people opportunities to access this body.

They also created the Electoral Justice Commission, a body that will be responsible for regulating the party’s internal electoral processes.
