PNP leadership travels to Washington for admission project filing

The general secretary of the New Progressive Party (PNP), Carmelo Ríos Santiago, announced that a group of members of the PNP, including elected officials, will be traveling today, Sunday, to the federal capital to participate in the establishment of the new draft admission, which will be submitted by Washington-based commissioner Jenniffer González Colom on March 2.

In a press release, the PNP’s Altern spokesman in the Senate also stressed the importance of the establishment of the measure for the admission process.

“The PNP is an ideological party, with an established and well-known north. Our Governor (Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia Urrutia) has been clear that this will be the four-year period of the state, as demanded by the people at the polls. In accordance with the electoral mandate of November 3 and the public policy of the new administration, we will be accompanying our leadership in this historic step towards statehood with the establishment of this measure, authored by our Commissioner Resident and Rep. Darren Soto (Democrat – Florida) have both made historic strides with this legislation, “said Rius Santiago.

Pierluisi Urrutia and González Colom will be accompanied by a group of congressmen who have expressed their support for the initiative.

Among the elected officials of the Island who will be in Congress for the implementation of the historic measure are the representative for the District # 1 of San Juan, Eddie Charbonier Chinea, the representative for the District # 5 of San Juan, Jordi ‘Georgie’ Navarro Suárez, and senators Nitza Morán Trinidad (San Juan), Keren Riquelme (Accumulation) and Marissa ‘Marisita’ Jiménez Santoni (Carolina).

The state contingent will also visit congressmen and other officials in order to push for approval of the new measure.

Rius Santiago said that in the coming days will be reporting a series of activities and initiatives in support of the filing of the admission report.
