Police are investigating after a pregnant woman was shot dead in west Houston

HOUSTON – A 22-year-old pregnant woman died after a shooting in west Houston, according to Houston police.

HPD said a report of a shooting came at 12:37 pm near Wilcrest and Richmond Ave.

“We’re not sure if this is an altercation about what happened, but it was reported that people may have been contacted before the shooting,” Brian Evans told the Houston Homicide Division.

Officials said the suspect followed the victim and fired at the car. The bullet went through the back of the vehicle and hit the victim’s back.

“I don’t think he was aware he hit someone inside the vehicle,” Evans said.

Police said the victim was pregnant. She and the baby died at the scene.

“Our understanding (here) was an HPD officer. In fact, they looked at the vehicle behind it. So they were actually here, I think. They were returning to the station when they heard gunshots fired. They approached the vehicle to assess that it responded to the vehicle, but as soon as it was transported from the vehicle to the sidewalk it was no longer answered that it was declared dead.
