Police chase ends with report of gunfire in Colorado Springs along I-25 Monday

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (KKTV) – Northbound I-25 closed Monday evening after a chase began in or near Pueblo County.

The Colorado State Patrol assisted in the chase and was able to provide brief details about the incident that happened around 5:30 p.m. According to Private Josh Lewis with the Colorado State Patrol, stop poles were used on I-25 heading north to disable the suspicious vehicle in the Woodmen area and I-25. The vehicle was believed to be used in a robbery. Shortly after the vehicle hit the stop poles, shots were reported.

Private Lewis said rescue measures were being applied to the driver of the suspicious vehicle and that at least one passenger was arrested.

No police officers or civilians were injured.

Colorado Springs police are investigating the incident as an outside agency because it was a shooting involving an officer. It is unclear which department or agency was involved in the shooting.

Traffic cameras installed by the city of Colorado Springs showed a U-Haul truck against the median with the CSP vehicle right next door and an ambulance behind. A live video showing the scene from the traffic camera is at the top of this article.

It is unclear when the road will be reopened.
