The commissioner of the Police Negotiation, Henry Escalera Rivera, reacted to the order of the federal judge Gustavo A. Gelpí, to suspend up to nine warnings the blockades that they had been doing since last week.
Escalera Rivera ordered the Uniformada to stop the blockades so far without complying with the request by Judge Gelpí. This was the presentation of a blockade protocol or policy that was ascribed to the constitutional parameters.
“Although we understand that the NPPR policies governing Roadblock processes comply with the requirements set forth in our legal system and the requirements of the Reform Agreement, we will be subjecting them to evaluation by the relevant parties, and that they make the necessary recommendations, “the commissioner said in deed statements.
According to him, the Police will remain focused on conducting preventive patrol and the various initiatives against crime.
The order of the federal judge comes after numerous allegations from various sectors that have described as unconstitutional the practice of the police to carry out blockades to allegedly ensure compliance with the current Executive Order related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
