Three police officers reportedly had to pile on top of the big New York giants who attacked Chad Wheeler and used a Taser to stop him after allegedly suffocating his girlfriend’s unconsciousness.
Several police reports obtained by TMZ Sports detail the fight between Kent police officers and the former NFL offensive line offensive during the alleged Jan. 22 attack on his girlfriend’s apartment, which left the woman with her arm dislocated , he told police.
“When I grabbed Chad, I could tell it was very solid and muscular, as it wasn’t easy to move,” an officer wrote in a police report of the 27-year-old who was 6 feet 7 inches tall and 315 pounds.
Kent police were informed that the suspect in the home attack, who has Wheeler described as the result of a “manic episode” – He was the NFL linebacker, TMZ reported.
Three police officers who responded had to collectively climb on Wheeler to subdue him, but still struggled to take him into custody, an officer recalled.
“Since all three of us (with a combined weight of about 700 pounds) were on top of Chad, I could feel him lifting his body as if he was pulling up to flee,” a police report said.
At one point, Wheeler used his “massive size” as he scrapped with police in a bathroom to momentarily rise up to six inches off the floor while apparently making “little effort,” an officer wrote in a report.
Police ultimately used an uncooperative Taser on the Wheeler, but the device had “little or no effect” on it, according to the report.
“Chad was so strong that even with the combined weight of three agents, it was able to move and prevent us from putting our arms behind our backs,” one official wrote in a report.
The three officers ended up with Wheeler in custody, but asked for a van to take him to the police station because they feared his considerable frame would not fit on a standard police cruise, TMZ reported.
Wheeler, who previously played for the New York Giants in 2017 and 2018, has pleaded guilty to assault charges of first-degree domestic violence, illegal domestic violence imprisonment and resisting arrest in the alleged attack.
Wheeler was cut by the Seattle Seahawks on Jan. 27 after his arrest and is due to return to court on Feb. 11. He has been released into custody, but was ordered to remain in custody and move away from the victim.
After being resigned by the Seahawks, Wheeler later he tweeted that he was moving away from football, saying he needed help after the “manic episode” he claims led to the alleged attack.
“I can’t express my grief or my remorse enough,” Wheeler said on Twitter on Wednesday. “I’m really embarrassed.”
The Seahawks line leader had been taking medication for bipolar disorder, but recently stopped taking it, according to a separate police report.
