An early Christmas ride with her kitten nearly caused a disaster for David Malloy, but they were rescued by a fast-acting police officer who stopped his progress just seconds before an explosive-laden RV exploded.
The Nashville resident said he noticed police cars in his block when he went out with his dog DJ around 6:30 a.m. Friday morning. He heard a recorded warning, but thought it came from the police, not from the armed motorhome that was about to explode.
One of the officers evacuating the area went to Malloy and told him to get out. Malloy was in the process of wondering why he had to leave when the explosion occurred, damaging buildings and smashing block windows. He credited the officer with saving his life by stopping his progress.
“We were lucky not to get hurt,” Malloy told WKRN, an ABC regional subsidiary, explaining that the windows in his building were blown up. “Obviously, we were scared of crap.”
At least it scared the humans.
Malloy said DJ was “quite baffled by this. I hope he’s okay.”
He said he felt lucky to be able to avoid injury or worse. “So lucky, are you kidding me? Garbage and glass everywhere, and it is my Christmas miracle that I will tell you ”.
