WOOD, Ohio – The owner of Madeira Beverage was shot dead at his store Tuesday night and police said the suspect is still at large.
Officers responded to Madeira Beverage at Block 6000 on Kenwood Road for a report of a person shot shortly before 8 p.m., Madeira police chief David Schaefer said.
Police found the owner, a 68-year-old man, with a single gunshot wound. He was rushed to UC Hospital, where he died of his wounds.
The alleged gunman, who could be armed with a semi-automatic weapon, is 6 meters tall, weighs 240 pounds and wore black clothing with a red mask, Schaefer said. It is unclear if anything was taken from the store and now police are watching a surveillance video.
“It looks like they left in a vehicle,” Schaefer said. “We believe it is an isolated incident. There are no security issues for Madeira residents or surrounding communities.”
Tuesday was the second time the owner of Maderia Beverage was shot inside the store. In September 2012, authorities said William Hart shot the owner in the stomach several times during a robbery. The owner was treated for non-fatal injuries. His wife was also working when the store was stolen and police said she was thrown into a cellar, according to a 2012 WCPO report.
Hart was later arrested during a routine traffic stop at Golf Manor a few days later and faced several charges, including robberies with assaults and serious assaults.
