One of the most important stories of the past week has been that of Saints Row. The sandbox series will return in February next year, with a new game announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2021. It’s a complete reboot: different characters, a new setup and no obvious links to the old Saints games Row. It is a new beginning.
However, the revelation did not go smoothly. The trailer for the title CG ad has divided opinion and the reaction has been significant. This trailer was bombarded with aversions and negative comments on various YouTube channels, and Saints Row’s Twitter account has been mistreated. It all culminated with developer Volition saying “we don’t back down on this game”.
It’s been a bit ugly, but a second trailer has definitely stopped the flames from spreading, at least for now. This one has a real gameplay, along with the developer’s comments, and has come down much better.
