Population believes new Assembly works for Bukele and not for the people

Six out of ten consulted by the UCA survey consider that the cyan bench puts the interest of the trustee first. 64% said they were not in favor of any political party.

The most recent poll by the Central American University José Simeón Cañas (UCA) shows that the majority of Salvadorans consider that the deputies of New Ideas in the Legislative Assembly work for the President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele, and not for the needs of the people.

According to the poll presented this Thursday, the population rates 6.27 in the first hundred days of the official assembly, but a revealing figure is that 60% of respondents believe that current deputies “work more for the interests of their political party than for of the population “.

61% also said that the new Legislative Assembly is working “to help the government and not to help improve the conditions of Salvadorans.”

Those responsible for the survey explained that the speed with which the Assembly approved the Bitcoin law, and the policy of lack of transparency in removing teeth from the Law on Access to Information have not been of the Salvadorans like to judge by the results of the survey.

In fact, the poll revealed that 9 out of 10 Salvadorans believe that “members of the Legislative Assembly need to study the laws in depth and carefully before passing them.”

In practice, deputies have done the opposite by expressly processing the projects mandated by the Presidential House and rejecting those proposed by the opposition.

The poll also reveals the overwhelming rejection of the more than $ 2 billion that New Ideas MPs have approved in just over three months in the Assembly.

70% do not believe that this high indebtedness “is helping to improve their living conditions or those of their family,” the study says.

“This situation is starting to take its toll on the authorities. The level of approval that the population gives to the president is 7.64 (out of 10). Although it is still high on the back of the government it does not endorse either its deputies or its party, “said Omar Serrano, vice-chancellor of social projection.

Another clarifying fact is how the respondents do not identify mostly with any party, although just over a quarter of respondents opt for New Ideas and minimum percentages for the other parties.

“When we asked what the party of their choice is, the winner is none: 64.4 of the people. We think it’s an effect of what’s happening in the country. 28.8% say they prefer New Ideas, 3.7% ARENA, the 1.4% in the FMLN and 1.65% in WIN, ”Serrano said.

The survey reveals, according to officials, differences between the interests of politicians with the needs of the people, judging by the widespread rejection of the Bitcoin Act that comes into force the other week.

“We find for the first time a major disagreement between the population and decisions being taken by the Legislative Assembly and the President of the Republic, because we all know that decisions have emanated from the Presidency, so the population points out that the Assembly must “to study in depth the laws they approve and the people must know them in advance”, sums up the rector of the UCA, Andreu Oliva.
