Porter describes taking refuge with Ocasio-Cortez during the Capitol revolt: “She said, ‘I just hope to be a mother.’

Rep. Katie Porter (D-California) opened at the shelter with the rep. Alexandria Ocasio-CortezAlexandria Ocasio-Cortez: Ocasio-Cortez says she’s the survivor of a sexual assault while recounting Capitol riot Democrats claim Marjorie Taylor Greene to be the face of GOP Juan Williams: QAnon MORE rulers (DN.Y.) during the riots at the Capitol last month, revealing that the New York lawmaker told her “I hope she can be a mother” and “I hope she doesn’t die today.”

Porter said he saw Ocasio-Cortez when Capitol Hill buildings were evacuated to pro-Trump protesters who violated the Capitol itself. The California lawmaker said Ocasio-Cortez asked if she and a staff member could enter Porter’s office.

“Alex is usually very polite and very friendly, he didn’t even talk to me. She was opening doors and I was wondering, ‘Can I help you? How are you looking? And he said, “I’m looking for where to hide,” Porter told MSNBC Monday.

Porter said he tried to comfort Ocasio-Cortez and said, “Well don’t worry, I’m a mother … [and] Here I have everything we need to live for a month in this office.

“She said,‘ I just hope she can be a mother. I hope I don’t die today, ”Porter told MSNBC.

The California lawmaker also noted that she and Ocasio-Cortez discussed her choice of shoes when they were sheltered in the office in case they had to flee violent riots. Porter wore flat shoes on the day of the riot, while Ocasio-Cortez wore heels.

“I remember he said to me,‘ I knew I shouldn’t wear heels, how am I going to run? “And we went there and found him some sneakers to put on by one of my employees so he could run if he needed to run literally for his life,” Porter said Monday.

Ocasio-Cortez shared Porter’s comments on Twitter on Monday, thanking her “for keeping her pressed that day” and calling her “a wonderful friend.”

Porter said she was waiting in her office for six hours during the riot and that no police authority or other officials came to check that she and her employees were safe.

“The Capitol police never took into account the safety of all members, so we heard voices in the hallway. We didn’t know what they were, if they were police officers [or] if those were intruders, and so we were left in the dark, “Porter said, adding that she and other people in her office were sitting quietly” hoping that [would] just ran. ”

Porter added that Capitol Police did not initially provide instructions for lawmakers to “take refuge” as they evacuated Capitol Hill office buildings for the first time.

Ocasio-Cortez recounted his experience during the Capitol riot while living on Instagram on Monday night. He said he was in his office early in the day, before taking refuge in Porter’s office, when he heard a knock at the doors. He told viewers he hid in the bathroom and heard a man, who was later identified as a Capitol police officer, shouting, “Where is he?”

“I thought I was going to die,” he said. “I think you have a lot of thoughts when you are in a situation like this. And as one of those thoughts I have is … Seriously, I felt like that was the plan for me, then people will be able to take it from here. “
