WASHINGTON, DC: Post offices across the country will be closed on Friday and January 1 for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
All Post Offices will be open after the holidays and regular mailing will resume on December 26th and January 2nd.
Some post office locations may have extended hours before the holidays, while others may have limited hours on Christmas Eve.
Although there are no limited opening hours on New Year’s Eve, customers should always check their local post office for operating hours, postal officials said in a press release.
Blue collection boxes with final collection times before noon will not be affected by an early closing on December 24th. If a box has a final pick-up time after 12pm, mail can be picked up sooner.
For mail collection on December 24, customers are asked to put their mail in blue collection boxes at noon regardless of the final collection hours posted in the box. As a reminder, blue pick-up boxes are not kept on Sundays.
Customers who have items to mail after pick-up times scheduled for Dec. 24 should visit the mail locator at tools.usps.com to find local locations of post offices that may be open later.
