Pregnant woman shot in the head, dead after showering in Harlem

HARLEM, New York (WABC) – A family is grieving after a mother who was nine months pregnant was shot dead in front of her daughter as she returned home from her own shower on Sunday morning.

The celebration became a disaffection for the Harlem family.

“Shanice was nine months pregnant … she was nine months pregnant,” her sister, Methania, said.

Shanice Young, 31, a mother a few weeks after giving birth, was shot in the head in front of her building at 128th Street and West and Frederick Douglass Boulevard. His family gathered at the same place to mourn.

“Shanice was a victim, she did not have four children: she had two and the third died with her,” her sister added.

Just after 1 a.m. Sunday, Shanice was returning from her shower. He was carrying the gifts to the lobby of his building when police said a fight broke out between the two men. Neighbors say one of the men was Shanice’s ex and the other was the father of her son to be born.

One of the men had a gun that fired and a bullet hit Shanice in the head.

There is a memorial for the 31-year-old and her unborn daughter. He also had two more children and cared for his two younger brothers.

A local domestic violence activist and survivor was outraged by the unnecessary loss of two lives.

“I’m upset because he didn’t have to die … it could have been me,” Stephanie McGraw said.

Police are still trying to determine who pulled the trigger.

No arrests have been made at this time.
