President Joe Biden’s job approval ratings have been submerged, as he has been criticized for his administration’s handling of the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan and while the cases of Covid-19 increase nationwide.

An NBC News poll released Sunday shows that 49% of all adults surveyed say they strongly support the work Biden does as president, while 48% reject it. 49% represents a four percentage point drop compared to a previous NBC News poll in April. The number of rejections has increased by nine percentage points compared to the same previous survey.

Among registered voters surveyed, 50% said they approved of Biden’s job performance, while 48% said they disapproved.

The NBC News survey shows that 1,000 adults were interviewed and the survey has a margin of error of about 3.10%. The survey took place from 14 to 17 August.

The vast majority of respondents say they disapprove of Biden’s treatment of the current situation in Afghanistan, with only 25% approving of the way he has handled the crisis.

Biden has been scrutinized for the way he has managed his administration in trying to evacuate allies in Afghanistan as U.S. troops leave the country and the Taliban regain control of the government there.

While new coronavirus cases continue to rise across the country, Biden’s approval to handle the pandemic has dropped significantly.

Among respondents, 53% say they approve of how to handle the president’s pandemic. That’s a 16-point drop compared to an April poll. Just over 40% of survey participants say they disapprove of Biden’s treatment of the coronavirus pandemic.
