How is the exchange rate going?
Base Bank explained in a report that the weight starts the last session of the year without trend and some sudden movements during the overnight, characteristic of sessions with little liquidity. The performance of the foreign exchange market is mixed and a consistent pattern is observed with a higher perception of risk, as they lose currencies of emerging economies such as the Turkish lira with 0.68 percent, the South African rand with 0.49 percent and the Chinese yuan with 0.25 percent. The nervousness in the financial markets during the last session of the year is probably due to the fact that, in the United States, the Trade Office has reported an adjustment in tariffs applied to specific products of the European Union (EU).
“The decision comes in response to tariffs imposed by the EU in September this year, when tariffs affecting $ 4 billion in U.S. products were authorized. Trade representatives from the two regions have held talks over the past few weeks, but within a month of the end of the Trump administration, EU negotiators pledged to find a solution with the next administration, ”he explained.
