Prince Charles returned to public office on Tuesday morning, although it was reported that Oprah Winfrey’s explosive interview with his son has left him in a “state of despair”.
The 72-year-old heir to the throne visited an emerging COVID-19 vaccine clinic of the National Health Service in London the morning after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were issued in the UK.
Charles appeared in a good mood while thanking the aides, Sky News said, but declined to comment on the interview when reporters pressed him.
Charles was the subject of some of his son’s most personal attacks, with Harry saying his father felt “really disappointed”, but hoped the two could “cure this relationship”.
One of Charles’ friends told Vanity Fair that the interview, which aired for the first time in the United States on Sunday, has left him in a “state of despair.”
“For Prince Harry to say he felt disappointed by his father must have been hard to say and hard to hear for Charles,” royal author Sarah Gristwood told the magazine.
“Now, just at a time when Charles, in general, had begun to look like a more popular king than one would have imagined, here is an important blow to his reputation. That his son was disappointed in him, “he said.
“It’s hard to know if Harry is aware of the damage this has done. Did he intend to shed that harmful light on his father and family? We don’t know.”
The royal family is said to have held crisis talks during the interview, but had yet to comment on it when Charles appeared on Tuesday.
