Prince Philip reportedly thought Oprah Winfrey’s explosive interview with her grandson Harry and Meghan Markle was “crazy.”
Philip, who died Friday at the age of 99, also thought “nothing would come out” in early March, his biographer Gyles Brandreth Sunday wrote in the Daily Mail.
Markle sent shock waves through the royal house when he stated during the interview that undisclosed family members expressed concern about his son Archie’s skin color.
“I know from someone close to me that I thought Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey was‘ crazy ’and‘ nothing would come of it, ’” Brandreth wrote, referring to the Duke of Edinburgh.
“It didn’t surprise me because that’s exactly how he described the personal television interviews given by Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales, in the 1990s.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s interview with Oprah Winfrey was broadcast while Philip was hospitalized.
But, according to Philip Brandreth, Philip was not bothered at the time. However, he criticized the couple for publicly broadcasting their personal affairs.
“The fact that Meghan and Harry’s interview was aired while Philip was in the hospital didn’t bother him,” Brandreth wrote.
“What worried him was the couple’s concern about their own problems and their willingness to talk about them in public. “You give interviews on TV for sure,” he said, “but don’t talk about yourselves.” ”
