Prince William and his wife, Catherine, posted on Sunday on Instagram cards that their three children had made for “Granny Diana,” or the mother of William and Harry, to celebrate Britain’s Mother’s Day. The publication comes amid the consequences of William’s brother, Prince Harry, and his wife, Meghan, who detailed the fracture among the siblings in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.
For Mother’s Day on Sunday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge posted on Kensington Royal’s official Instagram account that “for those in mourning, today can be particularly difficult.” The mother of William and Harry, Princess Diana, died in a car accident in Paris in 1997 when William was 15 and Harry was 12.
“Every year, on Mother’s Day, George, Charlotte and Louis make letters remembering their grandmother, Diana, for William,” the title read.
“Dear Grandma Diana, I’m thinking of you on Mother’s Day,” wrote 5-year-old Princess Charlotte. “I love you so much. Dad misses you. Much love, Charlotte.”
Prince George, 7, wrote “Happy and Happy Mother’s Day. I love you so much and I always think of you.”
Prince Louis, who is almost 3 years old, drew the heart.
William and Catherine also posted a photo of a cake they said were made by the children celebrating “two other special mothers today” and a photo of Catherine as a child and her mother.
The messages arrive a week later Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex told Oprah about the cracks between them and members of the royal family, including William and Catherine. Meghan refuted a story from 2019 that made Catherine cry before Meghan and Harry’s wedding, saying Catherine had been the one who made her cry.
In the clips aired on “CBS This Morning,” Meghan said the royal family never acknowledged that there was any difference in the way she was treated, including racist attacks and the introduction of social media, and the way in which what Catherine was about.
“Kate was called ‘Waity Katie,’ expecting to marry William, though I imagine it was very hard, and I know. I can’t imagine how she felt. That’s not the same thing,” she said. Meghan.
She continued, “And if a member of her family will comfortably say that we have all had to deal with things that are rude, rude and racist they are not the same.”
Meghan also said there were discussions in the royal family about “the dark” that would be the skin tone of her son Archie, a conversation Harry said he never wanted to talk about. When asked about these comments a few days after the interview, William said the family “is not nearly a racist family.”
Harry said that at one point, his father, Prince Charles, “was not receiving my calls” when he asked for more security for him and Meghan. He said he saw “history repeating itself” in the way Meghan was treated compared to the way her mother was treated by her family.
Harry said he and William had “passed hell together,” but are now on “different paths.”
