Eddy Olivares, chairman of the Statutory Reform Commission of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), has reported that by May 1 they will present to the highest governing body the proposed reformulation of the 137 articles of its internal statutes, including the cliché of presidential non-repostulation.
“We made changes to all the articles, ie the 137 articles have been modified either in substance or in wording … in the case of 101 these changes will be known to the extraordinary national convention, so that if, this article is under discussion at the moment and it will be the members of the convention where the party will be represented in its entirety who will decide whether or not to approve these changes, “Olivares told the DIARI guide.
Article 101 of the statutes of the pro-government party states that “until the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) convenes a congress to debate the issue of presidential re-election, it will be banned.”
Olivares did not reveal which were the exact points that were reformed of this specific article but stressed that the content of it was not the main reason for the changes that will be proposed at the convention of this party.
“The PRM has basically the same articles that the PRD (Dominican Revolutionary Party) had at the time of its formation five years ago, so a reform of these statutes is needed, the content of this article is not the main reason of the reform … most of these changes to be submitted, are already ready to be approved from July 2019 but as we were in the middle of the pre-campaign it was decided to leave it for after the elections “, he added Olivares.
The also member of the executive direction of the PRM said that the reform looks for to update the statutes according to which they establish so much the law 15-19 on electoral regime as the 33-18 on Political Parties, which were approved later of the consolidation of this party.
