A married UK teacher convicted of having sex with her 15-year-old student has been sentenced to more than six years in prison.
Kandice Barber, 35, of Wendover, Buckinghamshire, was sentenced to six years and two months in prison on Friday in Aylesbury Crown Court, Scottish Sun reported.
Barber, a three-year-old mother, was convicted in January of inciting or inciting a child to engage in sexual activities to have sex with the teen in a camp, but was not found guilty of two separate offenses of the same charge.
She was arrested in March 2020, four months after the principal of Princes Risborough School saw an explicit photo that was shared at the secondary school about 40 miles north-west of London.
Jurors during Barber’s trial heard testimony that he began texting the teen in 2018 after taking his phone number at a school sports day event.
The couple’s messages quickly became “sexual” and Barber sent the boy topless photos with Snapchat. He later picked up the 15-year-old to have sex with him in a secluded camp.
Barber also sent her obscure text messages, including some while she was teaching him in class.
“You can’t make me blush when I’m teaching now, poker face,” a message said.
A teenage classmate said he also saw a message from Barber saying, “Do you prefer breasts or vagrants?”
The teenage student also shared with a friend a shower selfie sent to her by Barber, as well as another photo of her leaning over a bed.
Barber’s husband, meanwhile, had supported his wife in court, telling jurors that their marriage was as “strong” as ever.
But a Barber ex-boyfriend said he had to end their relationship because of his insatiable sexual desire, Scottish Sun reported.
“When it came to sex, she was incredibly funny and that’s what led her to all these problems,” Barber’s ex said. “We would drive somewhere and she would say to me,‘ pull, I feel funny. It just got too much for me. ”
As part of his sentence, Barber will have to report his address to police the rest of his life and is banned from working with vulnerable children and adults, the Evening Standard reported.
“There is no doubt in my mind that you acted in a breach of trust,” a judge told Barber. “You took advantage of a child in your care and prepared him for your own sexual gratification.”
