The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) criminally charged this Tuesday the director of the National Civil Police (PNC), Mauricio Arriaza Chicas, for the crime of breach of duty.
The indictment was filed this afternoon in the Fifth Justice of the Peace of San Salvador, by the Life Crimes Unit of the San Salvador tax office.

The prosecutor in the case reported that the offense for which the Director of Police is charged has a sentence of 4 to 6 years and disqualification from exercising his charge if found guilty.
Last week, during the intervention of the defense of the Director of Police in the plenary session of violation in the Legislative Assembly, one of the lawyers surprisingly announced that Arriaza Chicas already had resigned like vice-minister of Security, reason why no longer the voting in the plenary session was come to outrage.

Following this notification, President Nayib Bukele announced on his Twitter account that Arriaza Chicas had submitted his resignation on Monday, and that it had already been published in the Official Gazette. “The Assembly cannot remove the jurisdiction or remove from office someone who is no longer a deputy minister,” he said.
After learning that the official had stripped himself of the constitutional violation through his resignation from the position ad honorem of Deputy Minister of Security; the deputies issued a resolution addressed to the Attorney General, Raúl Melara, to investigate the commission of new crimes.
The Assembly also notified the Professional Investigation Section of the Supreme Court of Justice of the performance of the five defense lawyers of the director of the PNC.
