Authorities at the Ministry of Public Health met with the Dominican Association of Medical Schools and Colleges (Adofem) on Thursday to present the government’s COVID-19 vaccination plan.
According to a press release, Plutarch Arias, Minister of Public Health, led the meeting and considered it of “great importance” that medical students join “the national commitment”.
The Deputy Minister of Collective Health, Ivelisse Acosta, stated that despite the “active communication” around the day of vaccination, there are still a “considerable number” of citizens who do not want to receive the vaccine.
“The exhortation is for the whole population: you need to be vaccinated,” he said.
While Eddy Pérez Then, Ministerial Adviser on COVID-19, and the Deputy Minister and Coordinator of Provincial and Health Areas, Fernando Ureña, agreed that the government will continue to promote vaccination in the country.
In this meeting were, in addition, Eladio Pérez Antonio, general director of Analysis of Situation of Health, Monitoring and Evaluation of results in the Ministry of Public Health; the Deputy Minister of Quality Assurance, José Matos; Hilario Reis Pérez, director of Medical Residences of the Ministry of Health.
For the universities were the president and vice president of the Dominican Adofemsociation of Faculties and Schools of Medicine, Miguel Poloni Reis and Miguel Robiou, respectively.
In the same way, the deans representing universities Marcos Núñez, of the Iberoamericana (UNIBE); William Duke, of the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National (UNPHU); Mary Anne Butler, of the Pontifical Catholic University Mother and Teacher (PUCMM): and Rosell Fernández, of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).
