Publix says leftover doses of COVID-19 vaccine go to employees

ORLANDO, Fla. – When and when COVID-19 vaccine is left over from Publix stores at the end of the day, these doses are given to employees instead of being kicked out.

“Our goal is to administer 100% of the vaccines we receive and have a process to administer the vaccines to our eligible associates whenever possible, if additional doses remain in a vial at the end of the night,” a spokeswoman for Publix Thursday.

Across the state and across the country, vaccine hunters have been convening pharmacies and other vaccination sites in hopes of getting shots that are not used so that they are not wasted.

Sam Torres, 36, of Orlando, said he was lucky at a Walmart in Oviedo. He called and asked to be added to the waiting list and was invited back that same day.

“I had just told my boss that I had signed my name on this post, so maybe I should leave at any time, and it was two and a half hours later that I got a phone call and I had to leave. “Torres said.

Some select Publix pharmacy locations began offering the vaccine in January, providing more access for seniors who may not be able to travel to mass vaccination sites. The program has since expanded and all 730 Publix pharmacy stores provide hundreds of photos a day.
