Sarmiento explains that to rule out that Iñaki had an intellectual disability it was necessary to perform a test the results had to be analyzed in the United States and then deliver a diagnosis until a month later, more than Rafa describes as ‘hell’. Fortunately, the test was negative.
“Describing this month is complicated. Even at this moment and looking at it in retrospect it’s hard for me to think about it and remember it. It was just Christmas and winter holidays that we take as a family. In the middle of a flight, I went giving an uncontrollable panic attack that Jimena was able to contain and control.

To me it was unbearable and simply impossible to maintain sanity. I was terrified of what could happen, mean or define in our lives and directions. He saw the child increasingly lost in himself and in absolute disconnection from the environment. It hurt me, it caused me anxiety, anger and an endless amount of doubts, guilt, questions and torments, ”he recounts.
Rafa also shares that it is not yet possible to determine with certainty in which neurological spectrum his child’s suffering is and details that it will be necessary to wait until he is older to know a clearer diagnosis.
“Giving a diagnosis Iñaki has been difficult and even today it is. He presented from the beginning a series of very characteristic features of the autism spectrum and so many other typical things that could contradict it. to expect him to turn seven to have a clearer picture. “
However, Rafa rescues the virtues he finds in Iñaki, whom he refers to as ‘The Great Master’, as in his words, he reminds him and his whole family of innocence and a unique way to enjoy the life.
