Mariota joined the Raiders last season in a two-year, $ 17.6 million deal. He had an IR stage in September and October, and did not leave the bench until the Raiders ’Week 15 defeat to the Chargers. Mariota completed 17 of his 28 passing attempts for 226 yards, a touchdown and an interception in that game, and added another scorer and 88 yards on the ground. Rapoport says a singular performance caught the attention of other teams, and some organizations believed Mariota could have a similar career path. Ryan Tannehill (who, of course, resurrected his career after replacing Mariota in Tennessee).
Mariota showed hints of promise during her five seasons in Tennessee, but obviously disappointed given her second-team overall genealogy. The quarterback went from 18 to 16 during his last three seasons with the Titans, but also had just 31 touchdowns against 25 interceptions.
Earlier this week we learned that the teams had asked about Carr and reports indicate that the Raiders were willing to listen to the offers of their starting quarterback. Rapoport clarifies that while the Raiders won’t hang up the phone on any team, they don’t want to move on from the 29-year-old and that a deal with Carr would be “incredibly expensive”.
