Bombay:

Entrepreneur Raj Kundra was the “main facilitator” in a case of pornographic content and he, along with other defendants, exploited young women who were struggling in the film industry by filming them obscenely, according to Bombay police in an additional charge sheet filed in court Wednesday.

The nearly 1,500-page charge sheet against 46-year-old Kundra, husband of Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty, and her partner Ryan Thorpe was brought before a court by the crime branch.

The case against Raj Kundra, arrested in July, was related to the alleged creation of pornographic films and the publication of these through some applications.

Two others, Singapore-based Yash Thakur and London-based Pardeep Bakshi have been shown as defendants in the indictment.

The crime branch had filed, in April of this year, the first indictment of the case against nine people.

In the voluminous document, police said that the investigation conducted by the cell that owns the crime branch revealed that Kundra was the “main facilitator” in the case of the porn movies.

Much evidence against Kundra came to light after technical analysis, witness statements and documents confiscated from his office.

Police said Kundra and Thorpe, in conspiracy with the previously arrested defendants, took advantage of the economically weak young women who struggled in the film industry and made obscene films with them.

They said the porn videos were uploaded to various websites and mobile apps.

These videos were sold through subscriptions and Kundra “illegally” earned millions of them, the upload sheet said.

The women victims were deceived: they were given nominal compensation or sometimes paid nothing, he said.

Kundra and his assistant Thorpe also destroyed WhatsApp chats and emails from their mobile phones and laptops that contained important evidence of the case, according to police.

They have been reserved according to sections of the CPI related to sexual harassment and cheating, among others, as well as the provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Law Prohibiting Indecent Representation of Women .

Kundra and Thorpe were arrested by the Mumbai criminal branch on July 19 and are currently in jail in judicial custody. His bail claims are pending before a Mumbai session court.
