Rams propelled Aaron Rodgers before landing Matthew Stafford

The Los Angeles Rams surprised the NFL world by making the first low-season box office trade on Saturday, but not before they tried to make an even bigger shock.

Before the Rams landed Matthew Stafford, the team ran against Aaron Rodgers, according to the Los Angeles Times. It was only after the Packers informed the team that Rodgers was unavailable that they reached an agreement to land the other NFC North quarterback.

It was speculated that the Packers could move from Rodgers in the offseason after switching with quarterback Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 draft. This speculation came to a head after Rodgers offered cryptic comments after the loss of the NFC Championship game to the Buccaneers.

“There are a lot of uncertain future guys, myself included,” Rodgers said.

However, Rodgers calmed many of those concerns after appearing on “The Pat McAfee Show.” And after the Packers reject the Rams, it seems almost certain Rodgers will return to Green Bay in 2021.

The Rams sent two future first-round picks, a third-round pick and former QB starter Jared Goff to the Lions for Stafford. Several other teams were reportedly interested in the Los Angeles court to acquire the star quarterback, but Los Angeles was able to offer two first-round players, although Detroit is now stuck with the gigantic contract Goff signed before the 2019 season.
